Pugio Dagger

ROMAN EMPIRE - PUGIO - TYPE KUNZING - FULL THIRD CENTURY AD Roman short dagger or Pugio. Mid third century AD. Iron pugio of the 'Kunzing type’, (according to the classification of Bishop & Coulston, 2006, p. 164). Double edged blade. Complete with scabbard (vagina) in iron sheath (the part in wood and leather are lost). Blade characteristically leaf-shaped. The dagger is presenting a pronounced waist and a double longitudinal channel defining a rib, typical of this category. Sides are parallel. Iron grip originally covered with bone or ivory, having inverted T-shaped grip plates with crescentic pommel. Pugio (dagger) 342mm inc handle 104mm; 75mm max width.
