Brief description
Wallpaper from lino cut by Barbara Vincent, pasted on Bedchamber wall, Merchant House, Topsham Museum.
Barbara Vincent was a local Topsham artist who specialised in print making. Advice and guidance was provided by the Victoria and Albert Museum who suggested using lino cuts to reproduce the effect of woodcuts. Two blocks were created and the designs are framed with a typical border.
This design is known as ‘Lady Fishing’ and dates from the early 18thC and has turned up in several places including the USA.
