Embroidered Bed hangings tree of life design by local branch of NADFAS 1986-1987 team led by Mrs Judith Moore The materials are Belgian linen and Paterna crewel wool. The colours for the wool were obtained using modern dyes (chosen because they are more stable than vegetable dyes of the period) but were matched to unfaded, original hangings of the period. The design is based on the Tree of Life and the incorporated motifs include tulips (Dutch theme), English oak leaves and acorns and local estuarial birds - herons, water-rails and avocets. The research and design was carried out by Judith Moore. The making of the pelmet, valance and 4 curtains was undertaken by 7 needlewomen from East Devon Group of the National Association of Decorative Fine Arts Societies and took 3 years to complete.
